Zoom and navigate
The Gantt supports four time scales: day, week, month, and quarter. Zoom in to see exact placement and inline-edit dates; zoom out to see a whole quarter or year at once. This page covers how to change scale and move around the timeline efficiently.
Change the time scale
Section titled “Change the time scale”- Find the zoom controls (a small
− +pair) in the Gantt toolbar. - Click + to zoom in one step — for example, from Month to Week to Day.
- Click − to zoom out — for example, from Day to Week to Month to Quarter.
- The time header above the timeline updates to reflect the new scale (day numbers, week ranges, month names, quarter labels).
Bar widths and positions rescale automatically. Dependencies and milestones re-layout to match.
Choose a scale for the job
Section titled “Choose a scale for the job”| Scale | Best for |
|---|---|
| Day | Fine-tuning short tasks, reviewing upcoming week, sprint detail. |
| Week | Two to eight weeks of planning, sprint boundaries, standard iteration cadence. |
| Month | One to two quarters of roadmap, quarterly reviews. |
| Quarter | Multi-quarter portfolio overview, annual planning. |
Day is the most zoomed-in; quarter is the most zoomed-out.
Scroll the timeline
Section titled “Scroll the timeline”- Horizontal scroll — use the timeline’s scrollbar or two-finger swipe to move forward and back in time.
- Vertical scroll — the grid and timeline scroll together, so scrolling either one keeps them aligned.
- Jump to today — the orange “today” line marks the current date. Scroll back to it whenever you need to re-orient.
Keep rows aligned
Section titled “Keep rows aligned”Scroll sync is automatic. If you ever see grid rows and timeline bars drifting out of alignment, scroll either side and they realign on the next frame. Expanding or collapsing parent rows in the grid also re-lays out the timeline to match.
- Zoom out before sharing a screenshot with stakeholders — quarter or month scale reads best at a distance.
- Zoom into day scale before doing any drag-to-resize on bars. Small drags at month scale move items by a week.
- The current scale is saved with the view, so your default zoom follows the view rather than the lens.
