Assignee

The Assignee column shows the current owner as an avatar, set of initials, or display name — whichever you’ve configured for the column. Reassigning is a couple of clicks.

  1. Click the Assignee cell on the row.
  2. An inline picker opens. The current assignee is shown at the top along with two standard options:
    • Unassigned — removes the assignee entirely.
    • Automatic — lets Jira’s project default pick one.
  3. Start typing a name or email in the search box. Matches appear as you type, each row showing avatar, display name, and a subtle email hint.
  4. Click the user you want to assign.

The cell updates to the new user and the change syncs to Jira.

The search uses Jira’s assignable users API scoped to the issue’s project. So:

  • You only see users who are assignable on that specific project.
  • You won’t see users who lack the Assignable User permission on that project, even if they exist in your site.
  • Search matches on display name, username, and email.

The Assignee column can render three ways. Switch between them from the column header:

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the Assignee column.
  2. Pick Display as:
    • Name — full display name (best for wide grids).
    • Initials — colored circle with initials (compact).
    • Avatar — profile image only (most compact).

Your choice is saved per view.

An unassigned row shows a faint person-outline icon. Clicking the cell still opens the picker, where you can assign any user or leave it as Unassigned.
